Little Rock Junior Cotillion, Inc. is a social dance and etiquette program for fifth through eighth graders in central Arkansas, with students from 30+ schools.

The Little Rock Junior Cotillion curriculum includes the teaching of dance as well as social graces.  Manners and Etiquette are taught and put into practice.  Line dances and partner dances are introduced and music is by a four-piece band. Receiving lines, grand marches, trading partners, introductions and the serving of refreshments are mastered early in the program.  Treating others with respect and kindness is emphasized at each dance.

The dances are on Saturday nights from September until December. The dances are held in the Carelink facility at 12th and Cleveland.  The Holly Balls are held at the Statehouse Convention Center.

The 2017 season will the 69th for the Little Rock Junior Cotillion, which has been owned and directed by Kathleen Henry Joiner (Mrs. Stephen) for the last 31 years.  Mrs. Joiner is a native of Little Rock and participated in LRJC as a student, then as an assistant to the founder, Ellen Butts, and finally as the director.  She was certified as a Children’s Etiquette Consultant by the Protocol School of Washington in 2000 and is a member of Etiquette Professionals.

"First of all, thank you for your years of service providing not only etiquette for our young people but also a coming of age event during their lives.  My first son started cotillion in 5th grade and my second son could not wait until he was old enough to attend, now with my third son in 3rd grade, he too is waiting his turn.  My boys have told several of their non-cotillion friends that they are missing out.  They enjoy the social aspect as well as learning dances and appropriate behavior (without realizing it). Cotillion has been a wonderful experience for our boys and one that we highly recommend to our friends. " - Karen

"Thank you for giving my daughter such a wonderful day!  She not only had a great time, but she couldn't wait to share with us what she learned.  And she said (and I quote) 'it was the BEST meal I have EVER had!'   She has already said she is coming back for etiquette class next year:" - Jill

"Your program is a wonderful opportunity for these children to learn how they should be treated when they enter young adulthood, and we are grateful to be a part of it." - Mary

"I think the lessons they learn at Cotillion are critical and appreciate all you do for our children." - Tiffany

"My daughter loves Cotillion.  She even told me she wants to be a Helper when she graduates." - Kim

"I think Cotillion is very important." -  Deema

"We have enjoyed cotillion (I too participated when I was young!) and my daughter  really looks forward to it."  - Mary

"We will continue to make Cotillion a priority for our children."' - Christy

"I totally agree that civility, kindness and respect seem to be disappearing from our society, so I’m glad you are working on ways to fit this much-needed activity back into young people’s lives." - Ellis

"Thank you so much for continuing to provide this amazing opportunity for our children." - Michael

Testimonials

Since our policy is to have a partner for every child, there is often a waiting list of applicants.  If a child is placed on the waiting list, they will be notified should a place open.  If notification is not forthcoming by the first dance in September, the application will be rolled over to the next year. You do not need to apply again. Invitation and wait list letters will be mailed in July.
