Little Rock Junior Cotillion In The News

Little Rock Junior Cotillion began in 1948 under the direction of Mrs. Roger G. Butts. This four year program for fifth through eighth grade children has become a  tradition for many Central Arkansas families. We are now teaching children who are the third generation in their families to attend LRJC.

The curriculum includes dance and social graces. Etiquette is taught and good manners are put into practice. Line dances and partner dances are introduced and a four piece band provides the music.  Proper etiquette for receiving lines, grand marches, introductions, trading partners and the serving of refreshments is mastered early in the program. Many more life skills are introduced during the four year program.  Dances are held twice a month on Saturday nights from September through December.

A friend of mine reminded me yesterday that it's time to send in applications to Little Rock Junior Cotillion for our fifth graders. It took me by suprise for many reasons. First, how can my son possibly be old enough for this rite of passage? Second, I never in my wildest dreams imagined I'd have a child participating in the program.

Here are my memories of Cotillion, as previously published in Little Rock Soiree
